Beautiful kick-a__ women, exotic locales (except Detroit-must have been some hefty tax credits), impossible stunts, what could be the problem? For starters, bad acting and even worse dialogue. But, it was still fun, if you can just sit back and enjoy the spoof. So far, this movie has returned $72 million on a $85 million budget; not James Bond but not many are.
Face it. Vin Diesel is not a great actor, but neither was Arnold, nor Sylvester. But all three know why they are there, to entertain, which is something many art directors forget. Not sure how they got Toni Collette to be a main character; usually she is seen in much more hefty roles. I am guessing she was given a big pay day. The movie did have some nice surprises with Samuel L. Jackson and Ice Cube. But mainly this movie was about action and blowing up things. The bad guys have a device to control all the world’s satellites and it is up to XXX and his crew to retrieve it. And to blow up things!
Why 3 Gavels? Not many network shows have an $80 million budget, so it is better than you will see on TV. But unless you have a real Vin Diesel crush, I recommend you wait until it comes out on the small screen.
As a side note, this was my first visit to the Cobb Liberty Luxury 15 Theater. Very nice. Regal and AMC wanted $12.50 to see the movie; at the same time, Cobb only charged $8.50. Competition is good!
